, president obama plans to introduce legislation next week calling for the biggest changes to gun laws this country has seen in two decades. yesterday the president surrounded by children who wrote him letters after newtown urged congress to take action on a number of proposals including universal background checks for anyone buying a gun, restoring the ban on military-style assault weapons and limiting magazines to ten rounds, giving law enforcement additional tools to prosecute gun crimes and improving the mental health system for young people. >> so let's look at all of those items up there. richard wolffe, every one of them has overwhelming support of the american people. universal background checks. 85% of americans support that. restoring a ban on milita military-style assault weapons. that's a 60/40 proposition now. limiting magazines to ten rounds. almost 7 in 10 americans support that. additional tools for law enforcement. you know that's got to be an 80/20, 90/10 issue. the same with improving mental health services. i bring these numbers up only to say, once again, that my r

of people from other parts of the country and not let this stuff come up for a vote? >> what do you think the white house's assessment is of that what you just laid out? what do you expect from president obama tomorrow in terms of a balance between things he can do himself and things he would need congress to do? >> well, he is going to do as much as he can to enforce existing law and do things through executive orders. no, the gun owners don't have to fear he is not going to take guns away through executive orders. it's that fear, that paranoia being spread by the nra and others. but he is going to take executive action. but i think he is going to propose a very robust plan from everything i hear, including an assault weapons ban. that seems to be the measure that has the most difficulty. one of the things i think they're going to propose, by the way, is to make it a lot easier to collect data on gun violence, on people who die in violence. the nra has blocked even the collection of data. so we can't know what is going on. so we can't come up with the right solutions. i hope that is part

.c., president obama is said to be forging ahead on a wide ranging plan to overhaul the immigration plan this year. this includes a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants already in the country. immigrants would have to pay fines and back taxes. it would require businesses to veri verify employees in the country legally. the president will lay out his annual state of the u.n. address set for february 12th. >> let's take a look at the markets this morning. at this point, the futures outlook is mixed. dow and s&p 500 futures are both indicated higher. fass dak futures are indicated slightly down, down by just over 7 points and i wonder if part of that is because of what is happening with apple. that sdun does the make up a big part of the post shares percentage. if you take a look at europe this morning, you'll see that it was at this point the averages there above fair value are trading higher in the early trade there. in france, cac is up by .4%. germany the dax is up by .6%. the ftse is lightly higher bay few points in london. in asia overnight, you'll see that the hang seng endeded
